After 6 months of studying and practicing questions on my work commute, I finally provisionally passed the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) exam on my first try. Here are my thoughts about the exam and the preparation process.

To prepare for the exam, I used the company’s Udemy benefit to take Thor Teaches’ CISSP courses. They were informative and covered all domains well. After that, I bought a quarterly subscription from Learnzapp and practiced all the CISSP questions from that question bank. This was also when I scheduled the exam. I purchased the exam with peace of mind protection, which allows for two attempts. The company will reimburse me once my certification is issued.

The exam was quite challenging because there was no official question bank to prepare with. However, I kept the CISSP mindset (thinking like a manager and advisor) and passed the exam provisionally. I am looking forward to receiving endorsement and my official certification. I recommend watching this video and this video for mindset preparation.

Moving forward, I will use BrightTalk, which can be linked with ISC2, to ensure that I am updated with the latest in information security and make up the points required for certification renewal. I will also spend my free time building apps and enhancing my knowledge of software development and software development security.
